Texas Tech Student Killed in Austin Mass Shooting
LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech University community is mourning the loss of one of its own after Ryder Harrington, a student at the university, was tragically killed in the mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning on West Sixth Street in Austin. The shooting, which took place outside Buford’s Bar, claimed the lives of three people, including the suspect, and left 14 others injured.
The shooter, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, 53, opened fire around 2 a.m. on Sunday. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the possibility of terrorism, with the FBI stating that there are “indicators” of terrorism in the case. However, the investigation is still in its early stages.
Former Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, remembering Ryder as an “outstanding young man” and praising his character. “Ryder was murdered in Austin by a terrorist. I’ve talked to several people who knew him and everyone had nothing but praise for him and his character. May he rest in peace! Pray for his family,” Hance said in his post.
