SD 446 Mourns the Sudden Loss of Teacher Whitney Woodward

INDEPENDENCE, Kansas — The USD 446 Independence community is grieving the sudden passing of Whitney Woodward, a beloved social studies teacher at Independence Middle School, who tragically passed away over the weekend.

In a statement released on Sunday, Jason McAfee, the district’s superintendent, expressed the district’s deep sorrow, saying, “Our heartfelt condolences are with her family during this difficult time. Mrs. Woodward was a valued member of our community and school and was a model of grace and kindness in all her interactions. Her loss will be felt deeply across our district.”

Whitney’s death has left a profound impact not only at Independence Middle School but across the entire district. McAfee noted that her loss has been especially hard, as she was the wife of Dustin Woodward, the principal at Eisenhower Elementary School, and a mother to two young children who attend local grade schools.

To support students, staff, and the Woodward family during this challenging time, counselors and district support teams will be available throughout the district starting Monday to provide care and assistance to anyone in need.

In respect to the family’s privacy, the Montgomery County Chronicle is kindly requesting that social media posts refrain from speculation or comments regarding the cause of Whitney Woodward’s death.

The USD 446 community is united in grief as they remember Whitney’s dedication to her students, her kindness, and the positive impact she had on all who knew her.
